Green Cards

Consult with an Experienced Green Card Attorney in New York City and New Jersey

Getting a green card is critical for immigrants and their families seeking to put down roots in the United States, and it’s an important step toward citizenship. A green card permits you to live, work, and travel to and from the United States, allowing you a great deal more freedom and mobility. At the Alba Law Firm our immigration lawyers in New York City and New Jersey are here to help you make it happen by guiding you through the process from start to finish.

Family Members Who May Qualify for a Green Card

Our immigration lawyers at the Alba Law Firm focus primarily on family-based immigrations and are prepared to help you consider all your options when seeking U.S. residency for loved ones. If you already have a green card or have become a U.S. citizen, you may be able to sponsor some of your relatives and help them become official residents. You may be able to petition for a green card for any of the following family members:

  • Spouses (if you are a U.S. citizen)
  • Unmarried children and step-children under 21 (at least 1 parent must be a U.S. citizen)
  • Adopted children (at least 1 parent must be a U.S. citizen)
  • Parents of U.S. citizens who are more than 21 years old

In some cases (but very few), the United States will issue green cards to family members who do not fit into the above categories or their respective age limits. There may be a possibility of green card approval for any of the following:

  • Siblings of U.S. citizens (only if the citizen is 21 or over)
  • Married children of any age (at least 1 parent must be a U.S. citizen)
  • Unmarried adult children (at least 1 parent must be a U.S. citizen)

How to Apply for a Green Card for a Family Member

If you are a petitioner or sponsor for a family member seeking entry into the United States, you will need to get an experienced immigration attorney on your side to help you make it happen. Without a professional looking over, you are likely to commit errors that could cause the application process to drag on longer than it has to. What’s more, you will need to sit through at least one interview and answer specific questions about your relationship to the family member you hope to sponsor, at which point it may prove critical to have some coaching and instruction on how to prove the legitimacy of your family relationship.

Our legal team at the Alba Law Firm is happy to meet with you to discuss the details of your family member’s immigrant status.
